The aim of the National Round table meetings is to introduce the comprehensive approach of the project in all countries, to collect feedback regarding our ongoing work and to ensure that the project is responding to the expectations of our stakeholders. The topics discussed at the round tables concerned in particular the Atlas of measures (WP3), the sector study of prioritized investments (WP4), the guidebook on assessment methods (WP5) and challenges in implementing agro-environmental measures (WP6).
The Latvian NRT on 3rd of May, gathered stakeholders for a vivid discussion about innovative agro-environmental technologies and manure standards. Work Package 4 leader Henning Foged (Agro Business Park, Denmark) stressed the necessity of clear manure standards. Ļubova Tralmaka from the Ministry of Agriculture informed that work on revision of manure standards is going on in Latvia. Also there is an idea in the Ministry to develop standardized plans for buildings, which would support technical construction process and reduce costs for animal farm buildings.
Arnis Burmistris from Farm Vilcini pointed out that farmers have a high interest in information describing latest technologies, especially precision farming, which takes in account harvested yields from particular land plots, soil analysis and fertilizing information. Maira Dzelzkalēja from Farmers’ Parliament stated that during the next planning period farmers will have to introduce new environmental measures, and economical background will be needed for planning. It was hoped that Baltic Compass could support elaboration of economic background of agro-environmental measures for policy planners.
