EU BSR Strategy meeting for Priority 1 was organized on 8th of March 2011in Helsinki together by the Ministry of Environment, Finland and Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection of Poland. The main theme was the implementation of Priority 1, its status and challenges.
The first results of the Strategy were presented by Anders Lindholm, DG Regio. They were:
- New projects created and financed in response to the needs identified in the Baltic Sea Action Plan
- New momentum to existing projects around the four pillars
- New governance process (domestic re-organization, better use of existing structures, etc.)
- Creation of new macro-regional networks in areas previously dominated by national approaches
- Extension of networks in otherwise established areas
- Reinforcement of cooperation with third countries (Russia)
- Macro-regional policy discussion
Baltic Compass projects input to EU BSR strategy work was presented by Lead Partner Staffan Lund. Baltic Compass supports cooperation and knowledge transfer around the Baltic Sea Region. One important method is creating a project cluster, where agro-environmental projects can work together in the fields of policy adaptation and stakeholder dialogue, innovations and investments and best practices and farm advice.
